Beautiful Watchmakers ENGINE TURNED Balance Poising Tool with RUBY Jaws
This beautiful vintage tool comes complete in a purple velvet lined fitted box. The inside of the box is quite beautiful , the outside shows signs of wear and age ( please see all pics) . The posing tool has three feet . Two with small knurled knobs to adjust them, they are used in conjunction with the circular level . The body of the Poising tool is engine turned with overlapping swirls on its top surface. The jaws of the tool can be adjusted in and out ( like a small vice) to account for the size of gear being balanced. The top inner surface of both jaws is made up of synthetic ruby that has been fitted ( dovetailed) into the top of both the fixed and moveable steel jaws.
There is no makers mark that I can find but it came from the estate of a Swiss watchmaker. It appears to have had little and very careful use!
